A Scar Can Be Dulled by Dermabrasion or Laser Resurfacing

Posted .

Scars are essentially dermal abnormalities that occur as the skin heals from a burn or other type of injury. If a scar forms on your face or another visible part of your body, it can have a significant impact on your self-esteem.

The height, size, age and severity of a scar will determine the remediation method that Dr. Natalie Driessen recommends.

A dermabrasion or laser resurfacing treatment might be used to alter the appearance of a small or slightly raised scar. These treatments typically make a scar less prominent by removing part of the upper dermal layers with a special abrading tool or a special laser light.

These treatments can be performed on an outpatient basis and you should plan to take a few days off from work and other strenuous activities after the dermabrasion or laser resurfacing. This will allow your skin to heal quickly and minimize any postoperative complications.

While some remnant of the scar will remain, it will be smoother and less visible to the casual observer.

Dr. Natalie Driessen will provide you with any other specific aftercare measures needed to help speed the recovery process.

If you live in the Palm Desert, California, area and you are contemplating scar removal or remediation, you should call 760-773-6616 to set up a consultation at Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Specialists.
